Fruity perfumes lead with apple, pear, peach, pineapple, berries or tropical fruit, usually in the opening and the heart. Fruit notes are bright but short on their own, so the base underneath does the steering: musk makes them clean, vanilla makes them sweet, moss and wood make them drier. Nearly every note list in this family also holds flowers, which is why so many fruity scents sit in the floral family too.
