How does Maison Asrar Khayal smell?
Cardamom and bergamot make the opening fresh and lightly spiced, and geranium adds a green, leafy tone that keeps the citrus from feeling plain. The heart changes direction sharply. Cumin is warm, earthy and slightly sweaty, saffron is dry and golden, and patchouli is dark and earthy. Together they form a spiced, skin-like middle that explains the Animalic label, which refers to notes that smell warm, furry or bodily rather than sweet.
Leather, musk and oud complete the picture. Leather gives a dry, smoky smoothness, musk a soft, skin-like warmth, and oud a dark, resinous, slightly medicinal depth. The likely result is a spice-forward scent that moves from a brief bright start to an earthy middle and a smoky, leathery base, with very little sugar anywhere in the list. It is a pyramid for dark, slightly raw perfume.
